Description:
The Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing is a vocational qualification which focuses on a range of practical skills and underpinning knowledge required in the Hairdressing Industry. The qualification is designed to provide occupational capability for employment or provide a sound platform onto further learning or training. Students from the Junior High School level are required to take the level 1 first then progress to read level 2 and 3.

The main aim of the Honours Diploma in Spa Therapy is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to create multi-skilled Spa therapists to meet the needs of today's market.
Course Contents:

Anatomy and Physiology
You will study all the structures being worked on when giving a massage. You will study all the major and minor systems so as to give you a better understanding of how the body works and some common diseases and disorders that effect the body. In brief, you will learn about the following systems;

Holistic Massage
Holistic Massage is an ancient therapy that heals physical and emotional tension..

Indian Head Massage
It is an extremely effective therapy that has evolved from traditional techniques practiced in India as part of family rituals for over a thousand years.
The Indian head massage treatment involves massage to the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp and finishing with the face whilst the client remains seated in an upright position.

Manicure & Pedicure
Every Nail Technician should be able to provide a basic Manicure service for their clients. Good Nail Technicians will be skilled in both Manicure and Pedicure.
The best Nail Techs will mould these basic services into the ultimate in luxury nail services by adding those special touches that bring their clients back for more, time after time. This is what we teach you in the Manicure and Pedicure course;

Skincare & Eye Treatments
You will study all aspects of skincare and fashionable eye treatments and techniques used in Beauty Salons.

Make up
This will help you become an accomplished make-up artist or add to your existing beauty therapy, hairdressing or fashion skills.

Waxing
This covers all areas of face and body waxing (including leg waxing, bikini waxing, underarms, facial hair, eyebrow wax) and you will also learn how to do Hot Waxing.

Figure Diagnosis
This section deals with being able to diagnose your client`s posture and figure, give them suitable exercises and be able to safely and knowledgeably use the listed slimming equipment. It includes;

Professional Conduct & Business Awareness
This is a mandatory unit and is given free to all new students taking an ITEC diploma. It includes;

Stone Therapy Massage
This technique uses warmed flat stones and sometimes also cool stones; these are placed on the body to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and relax the muscles, which helps make the massage more effective.

Aromatherapy Massage Using Pre-blended Oils
Massage using Pre-blended Oils is designed for people wanting to develop or up date their massage skills.
You will learn;

Provide Spa Treatments
This unit is about learning the non-medical procedure to help the health of the body.
Hot spring
Hot tub
Sauna
Steam bath etc.

Monitor and Maintain Spa areas
This unit, you will learn how to set up, monitor and maintain the spa area, to include the sauna, steam, hydro therapy and flotation equipment. Health and safety is very important as the warm, moist environment is the ideal breeding ground for bacteria.

Dermatology and Microbiology
You will study the skin and skin-related diseases and treatments and work with the various components of the skin, ranging from hair follicles to sweat glands.

Chemistry of Hair and Beauty Products
This unit is about developing an understanding relating to the chemistry of products used in the hair and beauty sector through theoretical research. You will explore the chemistry of active ingredients, the effects and safe use of active ingredients, the properties of packaging materials in relation to their structure, the properties and effects of ultra-violet radiation on hair and beauty products and their packaging materials. On completion of this unit you will:

The student will be able to: recognize skin type and disorder and take appropriate action in selecting or advising clients about treatment and aftercare; perform safe, hygienic, effective electrical treatment to the face and neck to a commercially acceptable standard and timing; adapt treatment to suit the individual clients needs by analysing information gathered at consultation, including contra - indication; understand the scientific principles of electrotherapy applied to the face and neck area; understand the important of current legislation appertaining to beauty employment.
